The expense of re-painting a house is a cost that the majority of people would not want to consist of in their budget more often than is needed. Keeping a freshly painted finish appropriately kept can extend the life of the painted surface and include a couple of additional years in between repainting. Here are our suggestions on preserving and looking after your paint job:
INTERIOR PAINTWORK MAINTENANCE
- Suggested time to clean after a paint job is 2 weeks after application of the last top coat– this is to remove any dust which has been gathered.
- Bulk of paints utilized on interior walls are washable.
- This means they can be occasionally cleaned with a milk soap water option. Using a sponge and mild soap service gently scrub the areas that have any light stains or marks. Keep in mind that very old and persistent stains are difficult to get rid of and should not be continually scrubbed hard as this might lead to irreversible damage to the paint work.
- To avoid persistent discolorations ensure any discolorations are tidied up straight away to prevent drying up and becoming long-term.
- Frequent cleaning helps preserve the appearance of the paint task and it is suggested to clean and wash walls once a month.
- For areas prone to dirt and marks, e.g. Children’s spaces, it is recommended to obtain a single coat of paint done every 2 years approximately.
- It is important that you often examine your walls for any indications of peeling paint as this can be the first sign of more serious issues such as water damage or seepage issues. As quickly as you discover any problem locations it is vital to get the expert guidance from a painting professional and take care of and damage right away to avoid more major issues.
- Any areas exposed to sunshine, especially doors and windows frames, will lose shine in time. It is suggested to use a single coat every 2 years to keep them looking fresh.
OUTSIDE PAINTWORK MAINTENANCE
- Guarantee you frequently inspect the exterior of your home to ensure you are on top of any changes or abnormalities. Whilst gardening or pottering around the yard make sure to do a visual assessment of your outside. If you discover any issues such as peeling paint or any other issues that are calling out for repair make certain to have a professional specialist look at the concern and advise the best ways to move forward without having to wait up until the issue gets any worse.
- All window sills and door frames need to be checked for bubbles and fading. These features might need to be sanded back and re-painted with one coat to keep that brand new look every 2 years.
- After you have checked for any problem locations or repair work it is very important to note how filthy the exterior is. It is necessary to occasionally wash down your outside as dirt begins to collect. The more regularly you do this, the less the build up. Annual washing is often specified as a condition of guarantees supplied by paint makers and painting applicators.
- Please note that high-pressure washing can really harm your paint finish. It is suggested to carry out typical pressure cleaning with your garden hose and a soft brush to loosen dirt. This will brighten your paint surface substantially.
Be proactive in your exterior upkeep. This will ensure your paint task lasts more years and will reduce the requirement for regular re-painting. - Failure to undertake proactive upkeep, particularly the failure to annually wash exterior surfaces may void the service warranty supplied by the paint maker and painting applicators.
